1. Conduct innovative research. Most government grants are restricted to narrowly defined research priorities. Private contributions make it possible for our scientists to pursue bold, innovative work that falls outside traditional funding channels—projects that cross disciplines, take calculated risks, and have the potential for transformative breakthroughs.
2. Mentor the next generation of researchers. ESR offers intensive inquiry-based programs in which students co-create science with professionals. These educational experiences train future leaders with the critical thinking skills and domain knowledge needed to tackle complex environmental challenges.
3. Engage the public. Our outreach, which includes seminars, K-12 STEM events, school partnerships, and public talks, enables the public to discover the excitement and urgency of ocean and climate science.
We welcome unrestricted gifts to be used where they are most needed. We are also happy to work with donors who wish to support a specific activity.
