Research focus:  Computer vision, sea ice advance, remote sensing, machine learning

David was born in Seattle, Washington. He is currently a graduate student in computer science at Northeastern University, where his coursework is focused on computer vision and artificial intelligence. After completing his B.A. requirements at the University of Puget Sound, he lived in Singapore during a six-month internship with Bosch – ASEAN, helping promote higher road safety and air quality standards throughout Southeast Asia. During this time, he developed a passion for analytics, leading to him working as a financial data analyst at Blueback Global (later acquired by TopSource Worldwide) for nearly three years. Wanting to go deeper into data science, he took math and computer science classes in the evenings after work, including completing the Certificate of Computer Science Fundamentals at Seattle University, before returning to graduate school for his M.S. at Northeastern University in the fall of 2023. Through Northeastern he has engaged in research related to terrain classification and the effects of non-sRGB color spaces in machine learning-based vision models. He is passionate about using data science to promote sustainability and climate research and has participated in multiple sustainability-related hackathons. In 2024 David was an intern with ESR, helping build a deep learning model to predict eight-week periods of future sea ice concentrations in the Arctic Ocean alongside a team of interns from Northeastern. In his free time, David enjoys rock climbing, playing basketball, and going to trivia with friends.
