First, select (by clicking) one of the regions or green mooring locations on the figure below.

Pacific validation regions 8N,130E 5N,130E 137E 147E 156E 0N,165E 0N,170W 140W 125W 0N,110W 95W PACN6 PACN5 PACN4 PACN3 PACN2 PACN1 PAC3 PAC2 PAC1 PACS6 PACS5 PACS4 PACS3 PACS2 PACS1

For comparisons within regions, select a year, ALL, 2005-ON, or NRT in the box on the right (as shown on this page here).

-- If a year is selected, the series of (maximum 12) files that appear on the screen are relative to the months of the year: e.g. PAC1_199211.jpg corresponds to the PAC1 region and to the November 1992 period (and this is a jpeg figure file). Click on one of these links in order to display a figure similar to the Figure 2.

-- If ALL is clicked on, results and graphics relative to the entire period and similar to Figure 3, are directly displayed on the screen.

-- The 2005-ON link corresponds to the validation relative to the period from 2005 onward, when the OSCAR calculations are completely independent from the drifter data (dependency of OSCAR on drifter data concerns the mean field and the diagnostic model calibration).

-- Through the NRT link, the latest comparisons of OSCAR to the drifting buoy data are available, based on near-real time processing of the OSCAR and drifter data. From there, just click on one of the .jpg files.

Some monthly period may be missing from the lists: except for the first and last years (1992, present year), this means that no drifter data were available in the region for the particular year or monthly period which the user has selected.

For comparisons at TAO/TRITON/PIRATA locations, result figures appear directly. Comparisons are provided at any available depth level between 0 and 30m.
