Work Tent

On ice camps, once a "hydrohole" is cut in the ice, a heated hut is constructed over the hole. Scientists can then run much of their oceanographic instruments from within this hut. Here, Tom Dillon (OSU)(background) works on a microstructure profiling instrument during the CEAREX program in the eastern Arctic in 1989. Electricity for the instruments and computers is provided by diesel-powered generators.
