Earth & Space Research (ESR), a non-profit research institute headquartered in downtown Seattle, is a unique environment for scientific research. Composed of a diverse group of research scientists and professional administrators, ESR encourages excellence in scientific inquiry through a supportive and responsive management team.

Incorporated in 1995 under the laws of the State of Washington, ESR has been granted tax-exempt status under section 501(c)3 of the United States Internal Revenue Code. Our organization is primarily funded by governmental agencies including the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Office of Naval Research (ONR), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

As an organization, ESR emphasizes the individual while providing a unified management and support structure. We provide an excellent employee benefits package and a flexible approach to our work, accommodating an individual employee's work needs. Management of contracts and grants, and other administrative services, are provided by the members of our experienced and dedicated business office. Our management team and Board of Directors guide organizational development, while scientists remain generally autonomous in managing their own projects.

Our scientists recognize the importance of communicating their knowledge and their passion directly with the public. Outreach and education are therefore integral parts of our efforts. We are open to considering specific requests from the community: please contact our outreach coordinator.

We are currently interested in attracting one or two additional scientists whose research interests complement those of the organization. Researchers with existing or potential funding sources are encouraged to submit a letter of interest electronically, to employment@esr.org. Graduate student or postdoctoral support may also be possible; please inquire directly with an individual scientist for more information.
