POLAR OCEANOGRAPHY AT OSU

The College of Oceanic & Atmospheric Sciences (COAS) at Oregon State University (OSU) conducts research programs in both the Arctic and Antarctic. Research interests of COAS faculty and graduate students include the role of polar oceans in global climate variability, the biological, chemical and physical properties of high-latitude ecosystems, and the geology and paleo-oceanography of polar regions.

Polar oceanography is conducted through a variety of techniques, including in situ sampling from ships, ice camps, and submarines, remote sensing by aircraft and satellites, and computer models. The breadth of research at OSU allows all of these methods to be integrated to form a dynamic research environment. Close ties with other institutions further increase the scope of possible research opportunities in COAS.
